Firewire/USB

I have a Sony camcorder that uses DV cassette tapes, but can also connect to my computer using a firewire connection. It worked fine on my old laptop, but I now I have a new PC that does not have the firewire connection built-in. I tried buying a generic wire that has firewire on one end, and USB on the other. Along with the new wire, I went online and downloaded some Sony drivers, but none of them worked. Any suggestions?

Actually no, it has XP. I guess I shouldn't have written "new" as it is a few years old. It is just new to me, an HP desktop.

Try getting a Firewire card, install that and see if that works any better. It probably won't, but it's worth a shot anyway...

I got a firewire card with 3 usb's in it. It worked out great for everything I have hooked up to my computer

just buy a firewire card, they are fairly cheap nowadays. Should solve your issue.
