FireWire.

I got a new pc a few days a go. The motherboard is a Winfast NF4uK8AA- 8EKRS with onboard FireWire. I tryed to conect my new Handycam to my PC by FireWire....But nothing hapened. So i gave Sony a ring and the walked we though what i had already done. But still nothing happened so there are three posible problems as i see it...Firewire on PC is buggered, Firewire cable is buggered or Handy cam is buggered.

So i was wondering if any body has any ideas on how to test my Firewire port. Iam hoping for a nice litte port tester program has anybody got one.

Or anyother ideas.

Well, I don't know of any port testers, but there should be one, somewhere over the mystified land of webbernet...

Have you been into device manager and uninstalled the FireWire port, then reinstalled it? If not, do it. This can fix many problems, if there are any ;)

Dunno anything else...

Good Luck!

Also, since it is onboard, you may want to go into bios and confirm it is enabled. As stated above, check in device manager as well. If everything looks good and you still cannot utilize your firewire port, try plugging something else in. If you plug something else in and that works, you know the port is fine, whereas if nothing works on it, the problem is not your camera. Hope this helps.

Yup, making sure it's enabled and installed would be my first approch. I beleive most any camera will show up in windows XP when connected and switched on. I know my TRV-240 shows up in my computer when connected even though it has no memory or anything for pictures as some do...

If you're just using 2000, I can't remember but I do beleive something shows up on the task bar as with most hot-swapable devices...

I did everything you guy's suggested buy still no dice. Nither the Handycam or the PC are picking each other up.

So does anybody know of a way to test the ports

When you tried the handycam and the camera, was this with the same cable. I would be tempted to completely eliminate one thing at a time. The chance of the problem lying with your camera and handycam is remote. Try using a different cable. Here is a tester:

Hope that is what you were after.

Remember to have lots of brews aswell, 'tis very important for staying calm and not stamping on your computer through frustration.

Thanks.
Acording to that test program everything is working up to the point of my cable. So thats my next target.

And i think i can safely jump on that without to many worries.
