First Build, Compatibility Check

Hello all! I am going to be buying the parts for my FIRST build from Newegg and I came across a Combo Pack which was exactly what I was looking for in my new PC. Now, Newegg does not guarantee compatibility since they are just a reseller so before I spent $1500 dollars on these items I would like to get some reassurance from you fine people here.

I do know I will need a cd-rom drive + Windows. Do you guys also think this build looks pretty good and the parts should work well together? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

looks good, just on a personal level wouldnt go for the CPU as it doesnt work well for gamers from what I've heard. but maybe amd has released some drivers or something

That CPU works fine for gamers.

I wouldn't get it. The antivirus is not needed, nor is the overpowered PSU, and the brand isn't very reliable.

The PSU isn't great, never heard of "Cougar" as a brand myself. The FX-8150 is currently AMD's most powerful offering to the consumer (not including their Opterons) but it's not meant to be all that fast, but it's still pretty good for gaming. Great graphics card, at the moment the 7970 is pretty much the fastest single-GPU card money can buy. Everything else is also pretty good, but the AV software is pretty slow (I've used Titanium in the past, Avast Free is better). Not sure about an optical drive, you may/may not need one. It's not mentioned in the description and they don't cost that much so I'd go ahead and buy one anyway, and yes you do need Windows.

Thank you guys for the responses! Ok, well I think I am going to take the advice on the power supply as I was thinking the same thing... never heard of it.

I also think I am going to drop the anti-virus and get kaspersky instead. Now if I go with an Intel processor I would have to do this all over again because I have no clue on compatibility. So I would have trouble finding ram, motherboard etc. to be compatible with a different processor. So basically i think I am going to break this deal down and do this:

Get rid of the power supply for something better, ditch the SSD and just go with a 7200rpm 1tb drive and ditch the Antivirus for Kaspersky as I've heard good things about it.

Any suggestions on this route? Any good power supply (modular please) and wattage suggestion for this build? What do you guys think if i stuck it out with the rest of the stuff?

Thanks a lot for the replies, they're greatly appreciated I'm anxious to buy.

EDIT: Yes I am going to get an optical drive... was just going to go for a standard dvd

650w from corsair, antec, silverstone, seasonic, pc power and cooling, nzxt, or xfx. That's for one video card

750w-850w for 2 video cards.

Modular is not really needed anymore. If you stick with that case, you can hide all the cables between the side panel and motherboard panel easily. Save you a couple bucks, something to think about.

I will never go back to a regular HDD after I've had an SSD for over a year. They really are nice, but if you can't afford one now, its not needed.

I would never pay for an antivirus. You can get the same results using free ones.
