First build, compatibility check

Budget: Approximately $1200
Location: BC, Canada
Main Purpose: gaming, HD Video editing
Multitasking: A lot
Games: MMO Gaming
Resolution: 2x 22-25 inch HD screen (looking for suggestions, $100-150)
Overclocking: Want ability too. Not regularly
Peripherals: Razer blackwidow keyboard, razer deathadder mouse.
Recycled parts: Windows 7 Home 64 bit

Build idea so far:

GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3
16 GB worth of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series
GeForce GTX 570
128 GB Samsung SSD 830 Series
1TB SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3
Asus DVD drive ($20)
Corsair TX650 v2
Cooler master Hyper 212 Plus
Apevia X-TRP-BL X-Trooper Mid

Advice for improvements and whether or not the build will work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
not compatible. The 3820 is LGA 2011 (X79) and you got it paired with a LGA1155 (Z68) motherboard. they will not work together.
 
What wolfe said. Get a 2600k or 3770k instead of the 3820. Just about as fast as a 3820 at stock, but you can overclock the 2600k or 3770k.

How about the Graphics card. Which of the following is better for the application I need:

GeForce GTX 570
or
Radeon HD 7850

and are these compatible with the Gigabyte motherboard?

May be worth grabbing the 3770K as you've got the 212+ cooler and then overclocking the CPU.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501 if that's too much then either stick with the 3770 and don't overclock, or get an older i7 2600K and overclock (the 2600K will work on the board you suggested and the one I suggested below).

Are you going for RipJaws-X 1600MHz RAM? Are you going to use Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate? Because Home won't detect all your RAM (it's limited to 16GB and your 7850 will have 2GB of RAM too).

A bigger SSD may be nice, I have the 128GB M4 and I've got around 40GBs of space left after an install of Windows 7 Pro and some programs.

Don't go for an mATX board, go for a full ATX board such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128546 there are cheaper options available if you prefer.

For the same money I'd go for a Corsair Carbide 300R case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139011&Tpk=carbide 300r for the money that is an excellent case.

Rest looks good.
 
I will be using Window Home but I plan to upgrade when Widows 9 comes out. Will it still run at 16 GB until I upgrade?

How is this motherboard:
MSI Z77A-G43 ($120)
 
You need Windows Pro or Ultimate I think if you want to use all 16GBs of RAM and your graphics card. If you want to save money, get 8GB of RAM and Windows Home. 8GB should be enough anyway, probably even for the editing.

That board looks fine to me.
 
They're just all from different brands, and some are overclocked and have aftermarket cooling.

Any one of those will be fine. I tend to stick to Sapphire (got a Sapphire myself), ASUS, XFX, MSI, Gigabyte and HIS when buying Radeons.
