First Build Isn't Working

I'm stumped  I have gone over everything a few times over to see what might be causing the problem. The problem is the computer will not boot, the green light on the mobo goes on and stays on, but the fans will go on and off. I have checked my connections for the wires, they seem fine. I have changed the location of the memory even taken it out. When the memory is out the mobo will not beep at me. Do you think something is fried? Here is a list of what is installed:

PSU: Neo 550
Mobo: Intel dg965wh
Processor: E6300
HDD: Western Dig 500g
Memory: mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) model: 996529

Let me know what you think I should do.

Thanks
Tom

will it even post? if not then you have something in the setup wrong, check all power, check that you have your front pannel properly connected to your motherboard

Unhook all power connections except the one that goes to the motherboard and turn it on and see if it POST and/or if the fans stay on. (keep fans connected to the motherboard)

Also check how you have your motherboard mounted into the case. Make sure that the metal on the case is not touching the motherboard except at the screw holes as this can cause it to short out.

So I tried all the advise that was given to me but I still can't seem to get it going. The light turns on, the fans go on for about 1-2 seconds and then off, then back on. What item do you think this problem is coming from? PSU, mobo, memory? Thank you for all your help so far.

i was able to get the fans and everything to kick on by using just one stick of Ram, but I did not get any video from the monitor. Both sticks work *sometimes* while alone. Should I for a first step return the memory and see if thats the problem? Remember that it doesn't always kick on, it still cycles the fans on and off like before. Can you tell me why the fans will kick on w/out hitting the power button? Please give me a hand with this problem i really can't figure it out.

I've re seated the mobo just to make sure it wasn't grounding. By clearing the cmos should i remove the battery for 30 mins?

It sounds like you've got a bad stick of ram...try swapping it out into a different computer, and see if you get the same problems.

As for the mobo...the standoffs are installed properly? I made that mistake when I built my first computer....

This reminds me of my first build.

It turned out that it was my videocard that was beeping, not my mobo. because i had forgotten to plug this molex into it.

check all ur power connections! sometimes, you miss some.

Hey guys thnks for all the help I figured out the problem, it ended up being a bad PSU. I work at Bestbuy so I exchanged it for the samething Neo 550 and changed it in store. The new one ended up having the same problem, so I went with the BFG 650w and it works fine. Again thank you for all your help.

the same PSU, with the same problems? you probably had compatibility issues like the wrong motherboard power connector or something

I didn't even realize i needed motherboard standoffs when i built my very first computer, believe it or not the thing still works to this day.
