First Build

I'm doing my first custom build for a friend, and I was just wondering if someone could check to make sure all of the parts would be compatible, or if there is a cheaper solution to one of the components out there. I left out some of the peripherals for simplicity, mainly because they are so universal, but if you are curious I can post those too. Thanks!

Antec Nine Hundred Two - $140

OCZ Gold 4GB DDR3 RAM - $45

I'm mainly concerned with the CPU, Mobo, RAM pairing. Thanks for any suggestions!

Drop the mobo to this gigabyte:

And get this memory:

And this gpu if it fits into the budget:

Well as far as the mobo goes, he mainly wanted it because of it's looks. You would have to agree that a black and blue mobo in a black interior case with blue cathodes would look really sick, haha. But I'll see what he thinks about the new picks. He doesn't care too much about the RAM, as long as it's fast and compatible.

As for the video card, we originally settled on getting the 4870, but we went for the cards that had heatsinks that exhausted heat out the back. It turns out that those runs very loud so he went down to that 4850. He's trying to go for a build that's as silent as possible. Do you know how good/loud the cooler is on that 4870 you linked?

Not sure how silent it is to tell the truth. The memory on the otherhand is cheaper after rebate, and would be faster than ocz due to much better timings.

number one thing to do when customizing a build for a friend is shop around. So just when you think your done and everything is in order dump one more look. Whats the budget on this build?

He's graduating so his parents are covering most of it as a grad present. So I don't know if he has a set budget, but the cheaper the better. Considering all of the peripherals included in the budget, I must say this is actually a pretty reasonable build in terms of price.

@bomber thanks for the link for the PSU, I'll look into it. He just said he wanted a silent build so I just went straight for the Corsairs. I can seriously not hear mine at all lol.

The psu is good because its modular, which will help keep airflow to the max;)

Yeah, I agree a modular PSU would greatly help with airflow, but in the Antec Nine Hundred Two case I would actually prefer it to not be modular. That case has room for amazing cable management. I'm already anxious to do the cable work in that case :D lol I think the Corsair model also has a bit more power on the +12V rail, but good find!

Yeah, plus forgot the 902 is bottom mount psu, so the cables wont just be dangling inside the case...
