First component to fail me with future games?

no, its better than the 7900GT, no worries there. but still, it will be the first part to hold you back in the future I think.

Graphics cards usually are the first things to go, just remember that.. (unless you aren't doing any gaming, then it would either be the CPU or RAM, depending on what you have)

Well for me, I think it's already the RAM that's going out first. I can tell because when i play DiRT on Ultra High settings, it's perfectly smooth when it's just me racing but when there are other cars on the track, that's when it gets slow. That to me is a sign of not enough RAM. I should pick up another 2gb of DDR800. It's fast, nice, and really cheap. I remember when a 512mb stick costed more than 2gb cost now!! lol :P

An extra 2Gb of RAM won't help things.. Did you try my suggestion and see if there were things in your Task manager that were using too much CPU usage?

erm.. why would that be the RAM? I think its the grafic's card. more car's on the screen, is more stuff the card has to render.

you think it's the cpu being bogged down? because from the symtems that i described, i'm pretty sure it's not the video card slowing it down. Especially since i'm only running it at 1024 x 768 lol. It still looks amazing! I guess it could be the cpu.

I actually think it is the video card to be honest. keep in mind, that card is barely faster than what I have, and mine are way older :)

edit: and I think you'd need at least a 8800ultra to really bottleneck that cpu anyway ;)

well this sucks... I just got my video card and it already sucks... isn't there a 30-day return on those cards? I got it from Newegg. If I wanted to make my games look nice and smooth, would the 8800gts 640mb be enough or do you think i'd have to hit the 8800gtx? I'd rather not spend that much money right now since i'm in debt and stuff like that. the 640mb 8800gts is $120 more than the 320mb and the gtx is about $250 more than the 320mb. Would the gts 640 really be worth it? I guy at compucare told me that the 320mb and 640mb 8800gts' ran the same as long as you had low resolutions. My res is pretty darn low.

Anyway, I trust you guys. What should I do?

You card shouldn't really be having any problems, like I said, I can play it on Ultra and your card is better than mine, so I don't really know what the problem is?

Yes, elaborate more, tell us what's going on. That card is killer right now, you shouldn't be having any problems at all.

It just gets choppy when i'm racing against other cars. It's playable but gets annoying because it doesn't make sense. It is a high demanding game but my computer should be able to handle it. I'm only running it at 1024 x 768 and Ultra settings (high shadows). It actually helped when i added a fan sucking out all the hot air coming from the card. It lowered the temp by about 3 degrees celcius and made it just a little less choppy. You think my card needs to be cooler. I'm wondering if it's getting too hot. It does run at hot temps out of the box.
