I don't mean to ninja into this thread, but I'm curious what the fps difference would be between a 1GB and 2GB card of a game at 1080p, and maybe the answer could help the OP too.

Obviously the performance % difference widens as a game uses higher memory amounts (in this case past 1GB), does anyone happen to have a good example or can give a rough idea?

It would not affect average fps that much, but it would affect minimum fps, which, I would argue, is the most important. When the game would jump from not using 1GB to needing more, there would be some sort of stutter involved.

BF3, especially with the extra anti-aliasing, uses over 1GB at ultra. My 570 with 1.25 gets maxed every time I play. That's the only game I personally tested. I'm sure Crysis and other intensive games would use the same.

All-in-all, with games becoming more intense with AA, higher resolutions, and for future-proofing, I would not get a card with only 1GB of vRam. And like I said, with rebates, the cards come out to about the same price.

No. BF3 and Crysis 2 recommended one GB vRAM. It is not just vRAM that work all itself. That is vRAM and RAM work together.

If i have 9600 GT one GB vRAM and 8 GB RAM, how many vRAM i got? 4 GB vRAM.
