Well I have always want my own desktop mainly for gaming and some programming, and 3d rendering. I took a computer science course this year and learned all about the hardware of a computer and since I got a job for this summer I decided I will finally build my first gaming desktop/setup. Here are all the parts and the cost:

Motherboard: ASUS Z87-A ($155)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K ($370)
Graphics card: ASUS GeForce GTX 770 ($370)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance Black 16gb ($175)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ($90)
SSD: Intel 335 Series 180GB ($200)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 ATX Mid ($115)
Power: XFX 1000W PRO ($260)
Fans: Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100I ($105)
Cooler Master Blue led case fan x4 ($36)
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 ($110)
Mouse: Corsair Raptor M40 ($60)
Monitor: ASUS VE247H 23.6IN Widescreen ($180)
Speakers: Logitech Z623 2.1 THX Speaker System ($140)
Operating system:Windows 8.1 ($105)

Total:
Before Tax: $2,258.76
After Tax: $2,576.8

It is on the higher end, and I may end up lowering the price by going with a slower cpu, less ram, etc. What are your opinions on my setup? Should I go with a cheaper setup or is this good? Any parts that I should swap out? I want it mainly for gaming. Also what are your opinions on windows 8?

Way overboard on the psu. You can get a corsair cx600 for your system or even a tx650 for some headroom. Would recommend a Samsung Evo for your SSD. 16gb of memory would be fine if rendering.

A Samsung Evo 250GB drive is cheaper than the one you picked out, and faster too.

Get the Samsung 840 Evo SSD instead, as previously mentioned twice. Also the PSU swap spirit suggested.
For the case, I would recommend this: Fractal Design Define R4 Black Windowed: $110
Then buy a 140mm fan and put it in the front. Take the money you saved on all suggestions and throw it at the motherboard, for something like a Z87-Pro or Deluxe.
For gaming, the i5-4670K is cheaper and just as good.
