First PC Build - Gaming

Hello,

Been reading over the forums the past few weeks looking through builds and guides as I'd like to build my own Gaming PC. Currently running a pre built setup from Overclockers.co.uk I bought in 2010 and It's become too sluggish for my likes. After researching and checking prices through it is a lot more cost efficient to build my own which I have no problem completing I would just like some input on the components if possible!

Aiming to run GW2, BF3, DOW2, MW3 and Farcry 3 on highest settings possible 1920x1080P on my Iiyama 24" monitor.
I've set a Budget of £600 (Needs to be firm) which I've already gone slightly over and with your help may find that I can move some of the cost around to achieve a better overall system and save on some cost. I've got a Razer Lycosa Mouse/Keyboard so they are not needed either.
My current system is Overclocked but I am a complete novice at that front for now (Followed an online tutorial to try get some extra kick out of it a few months back) so this isn't a key factor of the build but if theres potential to OC for better performance then I will look into it.

I'm not too fussy when it comes to Intel or AMD just a majority of my friends run AMD and have little to no issues so it seemed a logical decision.

I don't feel I can use anything from my existing system to achieve what I'd like so I would like to start a fresh!
Operating system could possibly be transferred over depending on whether I give it to my brother to use for his school work so I've left that in the build for now.
Not too fusy about where the parts come from as long as they are UK based.

Thank you in advance!

Seems all right to me. The Phenom is getting on a bit now though. Might want to consider the FX-4300 and an AM3+ board if going AMD I think. The board you picked should work with an FX-4300 anyway.

Good choice of graphics card too!

As for saving cost, the Corsair CX 600 is a cheaper power supply and will power everything in that system fine, so I'd say get that over the TX 650 to save a bit of money.

Could get a 7770 rather than a 7850 to save money, but if I were you I'd stick with the 7850 as it's a great card for the money. For 150 quid you can't do any better.

Might want to look at a cheaper case too perhaps (Corsair 300R is cheaper I think), but the case you chose is very good anyway.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. I will have a look at the FX Series when I get home from work, I did originally look at the FX-8120 but it kinda threw my budget out a bit and the Phenom has some great reviews.
I'll let you know how I get on.

If the FX-6300 isn't much more than the FX-4300 I'd get that over the 4300 and the Phenom.

Looking at prices that would be I'd have to increase my budget or spend less on the GPU. Researching both it appears the Phenom would be optimal for gaming over the FX-4300 but If I could stretch the 6300 it would be worth it.
Is that right?

FX overclocks with the stock cooler. Of course not as high as with aftermarket, but pretty well. So you could drop the 212 for now and get it later.

Yeah I'd suggest getting aftermarket cooling later and just buying an FX-4300 now.

If not, then the Phenom will be fine, but the FX is better.

Thanks for that! Looked into it and ended up making a few changes.
Changed the motherboard, went up a GPU to the 7870 2Gb and updated the Ram. Ended up sticking £250 worth on my Credit card..

Should all be here tomorrow ^_^

What is your existing system? Why couldn't it be upgraded?
Pre-build from overclockers usually use good component...

I wasn't heavily into gaming at the time and the system wasn't top of the range to begin with.
Don't get me wrong, it was a well built system and it did exactly what I needed it to do for the last 2 1/2 years but after looking into how far up the CPU/GPU ladder I needed to move everything became obsolete very quickly.

EDIT: Everything arrived this morning in under 24 hours! Very impressed with Overclockers service yet again and Amazon for that matter, £10 delivery on the bulk from OC ordered at 2:30pm yesterday.

Update:
Got the system built last night, took about 2 hours. Didn't rush it and made sure cables were neatly tucked away etc.
Double checked everything and then did the first boot, all was looking good until I got into the bios to find that the hard drive wasn't being detected! :( Gutted.
Ran some trouble shooting, cleared the CMOS and tried the hard drive in my current system to find the error message "Error 08 - Too many bad sectors" (WD 1TB CB dead on arrival!)
Decided to order an 840 Pro Samsung 120gb SSD which will be here tomorrow to install my OS and a few bits on and Overclockers have given me an RMA for the hard drive and I should recieve a new one in a few days.

Other than the hard drive everything seems to be functioning correctly but in the mean time I've gotta wait, so frustrating!

Too bad your HDD was dead on arrival. That doesn't normally happen (especially with WD drives) but sometimes it does. :(

At least everything else is working for you!
