First PC Build

Well im tired and bored of my Xbox360 and after seeing preview for Diablo 3 and Skyrim i think i want a better experience. So im selling my thing to build my first PC. For now i think i will be able to com up with maybe 900 bucks. I may or may not keep the crudy monitor i have now until i can get a better one so im not including that in the list. Also im not including a case because that depends on what money i have left over. So heres whats up so far. P.S. I am good with computers and i know how to build one i just dont know what i need to play games so i kinda just read around and picked what made sense.

CPU- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX

MB- GIGABYTE GA-880GM-D2H AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Im not sure about this, i chose it because the review are very good but is it a bad thing that it is micro sized?

Memory- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

HD- SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (good reviews, but what does bare drive mean?)

Video- SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Sound Card- ? do i need this. Will my computer make sound at all without one? I listen to music pretty often.

Power- CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible Is this too much/little?

Fan- ZALMAN 9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Optical- ASUS Black IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model DVD-E818A4/BLK/B/GEN Well this is cheap and i dont think i really need it aside from installing games.

Case- Suggestions?

Well there we are also i am of course getting windows 7. Am i missing anything? Lastly the computer i have now is a dimension E310, does anyone know how much i can fetch for it? Thanks for any help!

Ummmm if you listen to music often then you will for sure need a sound card. you dont need the best of the best just get a good low end one..unless the motherboard you are buying has sound ports built in then you will not need one.

Don't bother with a sound card. Most motherboards today have good enough built in sound. If you decide after building that the sound isn't as good as you hoped, you can always add a sound card later.

Wrong. Most people think integrated sound is good because they haven't heard anything better, and the same goes for logitech speakers. :) Even a cheap sound card like the one I have is useful, not so much for overall sound quality, but for restoring EAX in games and having clarity in music, which can give you an advantage in games if you can hear the enemies footsteeps :D

So as far as games go does this look pretty good?

Yes it's solid. If you're on the cheap, look up the sound card I have in my signature. It works for restoring EAX to games as well as bringing out the clarity in music (the crystalliser effect does that)

Thanks a lot everyone, i just have one last question. If i wanted to over clock the phenom to 4 GHZ is the air cooler good enough in general. What i mean is at what point is it not safe to use an air cooler regardless of what model.

You might be able to go that far on air, but I doubt it, coolers are only so good. If you want to OC the proc to 4GHz, then I'd say liquid cooling, and then you may as well go and use that to cool your GPU and RAM and OC those too :D
