I have noticed Firewire has been in and out of fashion on motherboards over the years. All the motherboards suggested here have had it, so I guess it's been a moot point.

It depends on the equipment used. Since Firewire is able to daisy chain, you would most likely will be fine with the two/three ports provided by most configurations.

BTW - Great suggestion on the video card dubesinhower. Also, thanks for the link to your thread. :)
