Hello,

I am trying to decide the parts for a computer that should be able to play current games and be strong enough to play the oculus rift on.

As it is the build i am thinking of is
AMD FX-8350 8 core
Gigabyte Z170 HD3
MSI Radeon R9 380 2gb
Samsung 850 EVO 250gb
850W power source
1TB hard drive
16GB memory

Are there any parts i should consider if i want to have a system that will last for a little while.

Hello,

The CPU is incompatible with that motherboard.
If you want Z170 you'd need a LGA1151 "Skylake" CPU (6600K, 6700K).

Which specific '16 GB Memory' kit did you have in mind?

Ive decided with an msi 970 gaming for the motherboard so it should work out. As for the battery, what is more reasonable?Im assuming I'll overclock it, I have experienced people helping me, so it might need the extra power?

The R9 380 really only needs about a 550 watt psu, so a good 600 watt unit will suffice.

Would recommend one of the following units.

EVGA - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438014
Corsair - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028

If you want a modular unit then get this one.

I would also get the 4gb version of the 380 as it will help and its only $10 dollars more.

Clearly you and your friends have no idea what you are doing. That is a weak motherboard. MSi does not make a single appealing or solid 970/990 board whatsoever. Also, the IPC performance of AMD's Piledriver chips is laughable and you really are barking up the wrong tree.

I urge you to reconsider and look into an Intel i5 CPU. A locked one. There is no need to overclock for gaming, since their performance is already so high.

Look at a locked i5 and a low end motherboard. It's all you need. Add a GTX 970 or an R9 380/390 and you're good to go.

Pick yourself up some DD4 to go along with it. 2400Mhz is the sweet spot for that stuff. Not too expensive.

850W power supply will be fine but it is not necessary. It's better to buy a higher quality lower wattage unit in my opinion.
