First time self build

I'm currently looking to buy my first self build computer. After looking around I've got a list of components which I'm pretty sure all work together but I was wondering if anyone would have any opinions to my choices, whether they're all good enough to make the most out of other components etc. I also haven't decided on a power supply unit yet and suggestions on that would also be great although I'd like to keep it under £60-£70 if possible. The components I've chosen so far are:

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI DisplayPort 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

NZXT Phantom USB 3.0 Full Tower Case

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D
 
Unless you do a lot of media/video creation or some other use for hyperthreading a 3570K will be just as good.
Get 2x4GB 1600 memory @ 1.5v with 9 latency, or 8 if you happen to find it for the same/nearly same cost.
Nice board selection.
Have a look at Seasonic 620w/Antec HCG 620w. Seasonic if the price is close.
For Barracuda, model ending M003/M004.

If more gpu is wanted the lower cpu cost will allow it.
 
I'd take the OCZ Vertex 4 128GB over the Crucial M4, mostly for the OCZ's impressive write speeds. I recently upgraded from a Crucial M4 to a Vertex 4 and the Vertex is a good drive, so if you can, get one of those.

I did some tests on various SSDs I had. Note now though that the OCZ is hitting around 450MB/s read with updated chipset drivers.

The SanDisk Extreme is also a good option and may be cheaper than the OCZ, but I'd take the OCZ because it writes around twice as fast as the Crucial and the SanDisk, even if the reads are tiny bit slower.

My Vertex 4 128GB cost me £105, the Crucial and the SanDisk are probably around £70-80 like most 128GB SSDs these days.

And I agree with Benny, save your money and get an i5 3570K. Also get some good cooling and overclock it.
 
Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will change to the 3570k instead, especially considering the price difference. As for RAM the Corsair vengeance looks good and again Benny I think I'll get the Antec 620w you suggested. Thanks a lot. I think I'll have a look into prices for the OCZ then before I so anything else, thanks for all the help, it's been really useful.
 
I agree with the above, for gaming there's absolutely no reason to get an i7 over an i5, but the extra money towards a better GPU. For an SSD, while the M4 certainly isn't a bad SSD, it's getting older and is being bested by SSDs from other manufacturers, the new 840 pros from Samsung are also great drives.

For a PSU, anything over 500 watts from a reliable brand will do fine, I use a Corsair HX650 in my build and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, IMO it's worth the extra $30 or $40 to go modular.
 
Just make sure you know, that GPU is vastly more important then CPU nowadays and I agree that an i5 is more the suffice for a decent gaming computer

The Vengeance that has the tall comb heat spreaders will interfere with most 3rd party air coolers. Vengeance is also made in a lower profile. And the height of something like Ripjaws is ok.
