Fix XP from Ubuntu?

Anyone have advice on how to fix a spyware and virus laden windows install from Ubuntu? This thing won't even boot up windows in safe mode...but I got it to boot from a Ubuntu live CD just fine. (I'm a Linux noob...all I can do it boot it and run Firefox, so please spell everything out slowly for me )
I may end up just reinstalling windows, but I wanted to try to save her install for her =/

What you can do with ubuntu live cd:
- download anything you want (firefox is included), surf the internet
- manage your hard disk, delete, backup or do what you want with your files
- open office documents with Office .org
- listen music, view videos

What you can't do with ubuntu (live cd or not):
- run any program that is for windows (like combofix or hijack this).

What I recommend you is to wipe your entire hdd and do a clean install of windows.
You'll get rid of any spyware/malware.
