i have a kingston 2 gb usb flash drive and today i saw a file i didnt want on it "bootex.???" cant remember it properly.

anyway i was doing this on my friends laptop, when i put it back in my computer it wasnt detected. it would make the sound that xp makes when you put in a slash drive, but wasnt it my computer and didnt autoplay.

the thing is it still worked in my friends laptop.

so would deleting that file have caused this?

also, i was trying to get it to work in xp and ended up uninstalling the driver for it. does that mean that no usb drive will work? or it just uninstalled for that particular device?

thanks

Deleting that fils shouldn't have caused any problems. Usually that is a txt file created after windows has scanned it for errors.

If you are having trouble reading you may want to copy the files onto a computer which can read it then perhaps consider re-formatting it.

Most likely, you deleted the driver just for this particular drive so perhaps that may be why it's no longer reading. You should consider logging onto the Kingston site and see if there is another driver download

nah dont worry. it started working again,

the file i deleted was a hidden file on there.

i did try formatting it....

thanks tho. all working

Hi,

Further to this message, I am also having problems reading USB pen drives.

I can plug a printer in to the USB port which works fine, but a digital camera, and two seperate pen drives that I know work on other computers do not appear to load.

Windows will recognise that a storage device is plugged in, but no way of accessing it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
