flash drives help prevent virus?

If I save a movie, software, or anything to a removable storage device (I assume they're all similar enough for this topic) am I still at risk of getting infected with some kind of malware on my computer? Or will it be limited to the storage device?

Also, I'm referring to files downloaded and saved from the internet directly to the device, not files transferred from my HD.
 
You are at the same risk as any other storage. I mean unless you can connect your USB drive directly to the Internet without using a computer.
