I found this mobo laying around and asked what was wrong with it. Aparently the bios needs to be flashed. I put it in an extra tower, got everything going, and it says I need to insert a boot disc into floppy A. I have windows XP and dont have a floppy boot disc. Can anyone tell me where to get it? Do I just put it on a blank floppy or what? Ive never flashed my bios before so im kind of lost at this point.

Any help ASAP would be great, I had to take a processor out of my other computer to try and get this working.

Win XP Pro setup disks. These can be used to start a Windows XP Pro installation incase the CD doesn't start the installation.

In order to flash the BIOS you need to get the updated BIOS from the manufacturers homepage.

Its a PCChips mobo.

The file you sent me mrjack is 4mb, is their a floppy that can go that size? Dumb question but I havent had to deal with floppys in ages.

in order for it to update the bios it does this from the floppy so it would have to boot from the floppy...if it needs more space than 1 floppy can provide you may have to use more than 1 and it'll ask for the next disk when its needed

I put the newest BIOS for my mobo on a floppy, this is what I get:

The Win XP Pro setup disks are 6 disks in total, you start the file and put in 6 formatted disks in according to instructions stated in the program. Then put disk 1 in the floppy drive and boot up, after which you put in the disks one after another. Then you can install Win XP Pro from the CD.

The Windows XP setup disks will be useless to you if you are trying to flash the BIOS. You need to go to a working XP machine, insert a floppy, right click on it in My Computer, select format and tell it to create a boot disk. Then copy the ROM onto it and boot your new computer with it. At the prompt type in the name of the flash utility, ie AFLASH.EXE and follow the prompts.

ok.. Did you copy the flash utility and the ROM to the floppy? If not, do that first.

If you have, type "DIR" at the prompt. It will give you a list of files on the disk. Look for the flash utility. Type the name of the flash utility and press enter. Sometimes you have to type the name of the flash utility and the ROM file at the prompt.. For example AFLASH AL5I107A.ROM. It will tell you if this is the case by saying "Usage..."

Then just follow the instructions. Whatever you do, don't turn off the computer or try and stop the process while it is running.

Okay. I get to the flash utlity. Says to enter a File name to Program. I only have a .BIN file for the BIOS from the manufacturers website and the utility wants me to update the ROM BIOS. Im lost.
