Hi,

Bit of a sticky one this, so bear with me. The laptop is a Packard Bell Easynote and not that old, a few years probably. At switch on the screen is plain red, then blue, then white etc but not definitely in that order. I was told that the machine should be disconnected from the mains, battery removed. Press and hold in the On/Off button for thirty seconds. Then, with the button still pressed to turn on the mains. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You can try what is suggested, however this sounds like either a damaged VGA cable that connects the motherboard to the screen, a damaged screen, or a damaged graphics adaptor.

Try the power cycle instruction first, if you don't get any joy, come back.

Thanks for getting back to me Okeydoke, I tried the test with the on/off button but still the same. I tend to go along with your advice that it is the graphics card, thanks for that. On some older laptops there is a graphics chip as opposed to a card and I am wondering now whether there is actually a card in there... the laptop is a Easynote TM83 but I do not have the specs for it. Couple that with my reluctance to open in case I make more of a mess.

Thanks very much for your help
