Flickering screen on a particular game - driver issue, hardware failure or....?

Running an Nvidiia GTX-770 under Win7 Home premium, Core2 Quad Q9550 with a mild oc to 3.6 gig, PNY SSD, 4 gigs ram. Going back x-number of driver revisions, I started having two distinct issues on Battlefield Bad Company 2. One was that after playing one round, going into a second round the frame rate dropped to nothing. With another driver revision, at some point the screen would flicker, like an old silent movie but much worse. Either of these issues only happen with BFBC2. Can play Battlefield 3/4 or MoH Warfighter with no such issue. Can run the Heaven and Valley benchmarking tools no problem.

I've been updating drivers, but the screen flicker is worse than ever with the latest 361.91, I've rolled back to 361.43 and the flickering issue seems to have abated.

My seat of the pants sense is this isn't a hardware issue because BFBC2 is the only game this happens on. Could it be that they're somehow tweaking the drivers for the newer games and there's some reason the older game is choking on the more current drivers?

Odd, what are your temps. when this happens? How long have you had the card? Do you know how to check your PSU voltages? Sounds like a similar issue I had when my PSU was about to take a dump.

I'm not an expert at all but if i had to take my guess it would be that your graphics card is over heating.
The thing is it doesn't happen on Battlefield 4 which is a much more system intensive game. BF4 runs flawlessly, round after round. Bad Company 2 doesn't even make this card breathe hard going by the monitoring tools.

That is strange, did you try something like Driversweeper to get rid of the old drivers then re-install them?

What I use is Display Driver Uninstaller. You use it in safe mode then delete all the Nvidia folders. It's out of necessity - the new driver auto-install doesn't work unless you do. A common problem apparently with the Nvidia drivers.

I looked it up and it seems that a lot of other people have this same issue so i wouldn't worry about your computer being messed up in anyway. So far i have not found a solution though.

Thanks. The problem I was experiencing is different - they were talking about sections of the image texture vacillating but this is the whole screen flickering. However I may have found the solution elsewhere - turning off "bloom" in the setup.ini file. Since doing that I haven't seen a recurrence of the problem after a couple of rounds. However I never used to see it at all with older drivers.

Set the nvidia application control panel to override game with the following settings

AA - mode: Override any application
AA - transparency: 8 (supersample)
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality: Quality

Let us know if it assists.
