Floppy Drive Installation

I bought my eMachine computer not knowing that it didn't contain a floppy drive...

Can u install a floppy drive into the tower or no?

I dont see why not, just open it up, install the floppy ribbon cable to the mobo and then to your floppy (you may need to buy one), then hook up the power, and your good to go.

I have an HP MEDIA CTR PC that does not have a floppy, there is still a floppy controller on the mainboard. I only use the floppy for when I ghost my HD..too lazey to make a ghost cd. I power down the pc , take the side cover off, unfold the data cable, plug it in to the floppy along with the power
turn on the pc, enable the floppy in the bios, ( by the way before you open up the pc, if you do not see evidence of a floppy controller in the bios, there probably is not one ) basically you can do anything with a cdburner and good mastering software to make cd's that you can use as floppys.

yeh i've done the whole CD thing before. it's just that i was surprised that i didn't receive a floppy drive with my tower because i thought that virtually all systems came with one.

Strangehold
If it has a 3.5 inch bay below the cd drive bays.

as a matter of fact, right below my cd drive is a 3.5 inch bay and it looks like i could put a floppy drive in there

just one more thing... where would i purchase one?

Just about anyhere, think Wal Mart even has them-office max-office depo-circuit city

hmm ok thanx for the suggestions...

i've needed a floppy for so many things too... see i dont have a printer and i do alot of work here, so i need to transfer it to a disk when i go out

one more thing... the space is 5.5 not 3.5 so do i have to get a certain size drive or will the 3.5 do?

how would the external drive work... does it just connect to the tower by a USB cord or something along those lines?

don't they use them more often on laptops... i think i've actually seen one before... and it sounds like a good idea because u can bring the drive places with you and connect it to other computers... which leads me to another ?

what if a computer already has a Floppy drive... can you still plug in the external drive? will it read it or no?
