I've just put an old floppy drive into my pc and hooked it all up. It is seen by my computer, but doesn't detect any disk put into it. Any ideas?

If you're wondering why? I nuilt a pc from old parts i had from old pcs. But it has no os, it hasnt got the power to run xp, and i don't want it running xp. It's for those programs that require 95/98 to run etc etc. It's like a storage comp for docs and other stuff. And i've only got a floppy disk version of 3.11 and a cd upgrade for 98.

make sure during boot up the light on the floppy blinks or steady. if it is the latter then you may have the cables backwards. if it is not detect then it is either the power cable not powering it, you disabled floppy in the bios or it is broken.
