Hi,
My floppy drive wont read or write to a floppy. When i put a floppy in and click A: in My Computer, It just says Please Insert a Disk into Drive A:

All the power cables are ok, as are the ATA cables.

Is the drive bust?

There was none included, but its a sony drive.

EDIT: Under device manager, its under "Floppy Disk Drive"

Its using the standard windows floppy driver, and theres no update.

Drivers?! You don't need freakin drivers with a Floppy drive?!

Usally this doesn't matter be be sure you used the end of the cable with the twist on it is connected to the drive. That's suppose to be for drive A:, but will usally work either way.

You have power too? Dumb mistake I've made before :P

Try flipping the cable if you can. It shouldn't hurt anything, but should cause the light to stay solid.

Sorry if you mentioned this above, but you have set it all up in your BIOS, correct?

Maybe buy a new one, I've had alot of floppy dfrives break, alot mroe then i should have too. they are cheap, only about 6$.

The_Other_One: Yep, the power cable is in , the light is on at the front, and ive tried flipping the cables around, no difference. And its all set up in the BIOS.

krimson_king: Ive tried it with several different brands of disk, formatted & un formatted, still nothing!

Get a CD-RW

same problem im having here... same brand...same problem.. =] the light didnt lit when i turn the computer on and there seems no power so yeah is there any special cabling for this problem? i used the long ide cables T_T

I don't know what you guys are doing but a floppy drive DOESN'T use IDE cables. It dosen't connect to the IDE controller either. IDE cables are 40 pin, floppy drives are 34...
