For a friend

I can choose the parts later.
My friends wants a pc built for current and other games.
Would you suggest I stay with the core 2 or go i7.
I was thinking i7.
What are some of your guys thoughts.

With the price drop of the DDR3 ram ,I7 is probably the way to go now dont you think? The 920 from what I have been reading performs on par or better than the qx9770 so the price drops on the core 2 quads would need to go a long ways to be the better choice now.Plus the scaling is better using more than one GPU if needed over the current quads or duals.

depends on his budget, if its decent, i would go i7, otherwise go for something along the lines of a p45 board with a q9650(not $500 anymore)

Everything looks fine. However, does he/she really need to spend that much on PSU and Case?

For that system with single video card, I guess a 500W PSU should more than enough. May be CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ?
Also, does he/she really need a full tower case? that is huge. I personally would suggest a mid-tower. May be a $70 CM 690
So, the saving could go for a more expensive X48 Mobo

BTY, for P45 chipset motherboard, GA-EP45-UD3P is a better choice.
