Hi i have recently baught a x-fi platinum so that i can have my headphones and micro phone in the front pannel and my speakers in the back of the card. The front drive bay uses "line-in 2/mic 2" however when i set this as the default recording source from volume pannel or the x-fi mixer, most programs like skype and bf2's VOIP revert it back to "mic" and i have to manualy set it back everytime if i want people to hear me, is there anyway within windows or the x-fi control pannel that will enable me to lock this setting to "line-in2/mic2" and only change it when i chose to?
Maybe there is a settings file i can make read only or something AS A last resort? any thaughts!

Chears dude's

With the older Audigy 4 Pro with no front panel the input or mic is either enabled or disabled along with adjusting levels with the Creative sound mixer. Since the input is direct to the card no game or other media/media player changes settings there. You may end having to use the inputs there since they are the defaults. That will keep settings inplace.

thanks for the reply!

So there is no way to lock line 2/mic 2 as the default! there must be away otherwise there is no use to the front drive bay, i got it so that i would not have to bother changing all the cables around at the back (from spreakers to headset and back etc) at this moment in time its mor haslte than ever before!

Well one thing I did here when looking around for speakers was to pick a set where you plugged head phones into them rather then the front panel of the case or an addin 5 1/4" bay panel. Any mic goes right into the card. That gives exclusive control there since those are the "ins" and the "outs" in that regard. Software can't unplug a cord while you can. From there you simply adjust the levels with the sound mixer. Doesn't the front panel plug into the same places on the card anyway?

sorry for the late reply!
Ive got an addin bay, the official x-fi version (thats why i went for the platinum, although it was the costlier option i thaught it would be of better quality than a generic version). thats where the problem is. i have my speekers in the card, and my headphones (1 speaker jack and 1 microphone jack) into the front pannel/bay. However when i open a program like skype or voip instead of using the mic 2 port which is on the front bay/pannel it reverts to mic1 (the back of the card) where nothing is plugged in. i can then go back into properties either the windows mixer or the x-fi's own and change it back to mic 2 and it will be good untill the end of the session or untill i re-start the program or something else decides to change it.

"Doesn't the front panel plug into the same places on the card anyway?"

card has some sort of ribbon cable to the bay!

i think thay have made it too complicated. doing some googling i have found a host of other problems, some people cant get anything from the front bay!

oh well i think im just gonna send an e-mail to creative and see what solution they come up with! If i get this solved i will post results here.

thanks "PC eye" for your help!

One small cord will run from the sound card out to a cd or dvd drive. There are usually a few spots along the top edge for one or two plugins on the card itself. I never did get the front panel for the Audigy 4 Pro here. But the instructions are right in the bootlet that comes with the setup. That will show just where the connections run from panel to card.

It's got a ribbon cable from the card to the pannel, and two DMA cable's from the card to the cdrom drive's, though they not needed, as i dont use cd playback often!

Besides i managed to fix it, there are three modes for it "entertainment mode", "Audio Creation Mode" and "Game Mode" All of which have mixers in them however if you go to the Audio Creation setup page there is a box under "recorder" i changed it there and it seems to be working, if you change it via the mixer's it seems it will change it but it's only temporary untill some thing wants to use the default device, it would seem however that setting it manualy there seems to lock mic 2 as the default! So problem solved for the time being! ;)

thanks for all your help dude!

Hey that's great there. The configuration info there is one to write down somewhere for future reference. That will save any problems if and when you upgrade later.
