Format a floppy ?

Using Win XP home edition;
When I try to write to a floppy I get;
"the disk is not formatted. format now?"
OK>
error; "the drive is in use by another application"
Can't do it by start>my computer>A>format.
Can't do it by start>explorer>A>format.
Was going to use disk management, but my A drive doesn't show up in there.

Sometimes the disc is bad, try another one. Also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus software; that may interfere with your formatting. Be sure than any explorer windows are not open to the a:\ drive.

Thanx.....I'm brain dead again. I always forget the AV is running.
