I had 3 harddrives - 1 with xp installed and second as data. Third had linux installed as dual boot. The xp got screwed up so i installed windows 7 over linux. I know have one harddrive with windows 7 on it. Second one that was data is still as data not touched. One with xp doesn't boot up any more but i can still access it as d drive as data. I have copied over anything important to an external. Now i want to wipe the drive so i can get rip of the windows. Could i just delete all files on the drive? or best to format it under windows 7? also full format or quick under 7?

i just went to my computer and right clicked on the drive and chose format. I had quick format and it gave error saying it will erase data. i said ok. then it said it is in use by a program or process?
If i go to manage then disk management if i go to right click on drive and format it says this is an active drive and do i want to format it? Is this because it has a xp installed on it (even if it is screwed up)?

Edit: I'll outline it
I have 120gb drive with windows 7 on it know as c drive.
640gb drive with xp on it not in able to boot anymore coming up as d drive.
640gb drive as a data drive as e drive.

I want to wipe xp drive (d) and use as data also. If i right click it says it is in use by program or process do i really want to format?
Under disk management it says it is an active drive and do i really want to format it?
What is the way i can format it.
