format hard drive

Ok I am wanting to format my hard drive.. On this computer I have windows ME.. and I want to take everything off of the hard drive.. Does anyone know how I can do that?
 
what os do u want to install, because u should just be able to insert the os cd that u want to install follow the directions and it will format and install the os for you.
 
I want to install windows xp but i dont have the comfirmation code to it.. and i know it will work if i just format my hard drive and take everything off of it because i had a differant computer that had nothing on the hard drive and then downloaded windows xp and it didnt ask for the comfirmation code so does anyone know how to format the hard drive?
