Format Hd Question?

I'm need to format my hd to put it in a new build.Do I format it before installing it in the new build? or put it in the new build, then format? Win XP/SP3 on Hd.

As long as there is nothing important on the drive and it is a clean drive (no maleware or viruses) then you just install it and format with the windows install. However, you will need to killdisk or DBAN it if you have any infections on the XP that is on there. That is just safety.

Really its a good idea to killdisk it before you reinstall anyway.

I think that is debatable. The content of unreferenced sectors is not important.

I use KillDisk almost always.
It makes sure all the HDD space is made available.
I have found that sometimes just deleting partitions and formatting misses some space.
