Bought a seagate 80gb 7200 rpm hard drive, at the time didnt know it wasnt formatted untill i tried to add it as a slave today. Now the computer recognizes the hard drive both in the BIOS and in the device manager but the icon in my computer doesnt show up and it still says i only have 2gb left. Now my old hard drive is an IDE and the new one an ATA, not sure if thats the problem?, but i think its because its not formatted and i dont really know how to do that. I dont have any options under the BIOS or the device manager to format it. Any help would be appreciated.

If it does show up in My Computer, right click on it and click on Format, then use NTSF. If not then you can use a Linux cd, or Windows OS cd and format it that way...

so then i can pull out my xp pro cd and put it in and it will auto detect that i have a new hard drive and give me an option to format?

Ahh basicly yes. Just pop in the Cd, boot from it like you would if you reinstalled XP. Then continue like you would if you where reistalling XP, then there should be a box with you HDD's and there sizes. It should show you your new one the press enter and format it with NTSF. You could format it with FAT32 if you wish.

NOTE: After you Reformated you new HDD cancel the install so you dont install a new copy of XP.
