Formating Hard Drive

I have accidently installed 2 operating systems on my Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop.
So i went to format the hard drive to wipe it and get all of the crap of it so i can start a fresh i push the format button to start the process and it comes up with "Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this device, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again."

The only window open on the screen is the formatting box and i have shut all othere programs of.

Can anyone help.

Try booting it from the windows disc and formatting it from there, then installing a clean copy of windwos on your hard drive, that should do it
