Formatting C-drive

I try to format my C-drive on which Windows 7 Pro is installed.

I read somewhere to go to Disk Management ( see Computer Management/under storage )
and right click on the C-drive which should then start the formatting.

However, when I do that the Format is dimmed and therefore no action possible.

Any idea how to overcome the problem ?
Or what other method could I use to format the C-drive ?

Why are you wanting to format C drive? Why don't you just use the install cd to wipe the partitions and start over?

As both of the other posters have said, you can't format the C drive because it's in use. Why do you want to format it anyways?

well, if you wanna install a other os, you can just plug ur bootable stick in, and boot from it using the bios(go to bios and select ur usb drive to boot from)

and during the install, you could format it.

but if you dont wanna do that, you cant if ur os is installed on it...

or, just do a cd install.
