You should have taken note of jamesd1981's first response! RTF is not the normal format you would use for "proper" documents. If "your" lady was experienced, she should have figured that out too.
Formatting problems due to font can be quickly found by clicking somewhere on the problem paragraphs and checking font (on the main toolbar). To reformat a problem paragraph(s), select the text and then the font you want. If the layout (eg table, columns) is not as you expected, that may be more difficult. The tab markers can be very confusing.
Sending a document to yourself is most useful to quickly check outgoing and incoming mail are working OK. In this instance, the incoming document may have appeared different if the original attachment was in html format as I noted in my last post.
