Formatting XP going to vista...

i just now began to take a look at installing vista and its not looking good on my end....freezes at the "completing install" screen...working with drivers on the prob. now...but to your question, as far as i know you can format...i have NO clue about partitioning with the disk but im guessing you can, im not sure because my hd was pre-partition prior to me 'trying' to install vista lol.......as for the drivers, vista prompts you to find drivers you need before beginning the install..this is also at the same screen as the format and 'select your hd space to install on' screen....hope that helps

you should have tried that before posting a question here and expecting an instant answer.
The Vista installation disk now sees the option to format a partition/drive sepaate from the installation process as well as resizing partitions. When going to install Vista unlike XP that simply deleted all previous MS folders Vista now rolls everything up into a Windows.old folder for later retrieving files and data from before manually deleting it yourself. That also allows reversion to the previous version of Windows.
Once you have Vista up and running the usual hardware detection/new hardware found prompts will still come up looking for drivers. At first the "U"ser "A"ccount "C"ontrol feature Vista's new security feature will hamper anything being installed. With that disabled in the control panel installing all software/drivers goes on like seen with XP.

My bad i thought the forum was more populated than it looked... i figured with so many people hating vista, someone must've installed via clean format.
you're about as useful as everyone who looked and didnt have anything to say weather they knew the answer or not... any seach w/ the words vista and install result in that dumbass youtube video.

but what is it getting in the way of?The UAC is like a super firewall constantly prompting you on literally everything and every step during installation of many programs. You have to click the allow button like you would with a firewall inplace including the one enabled by default in Vista as well as XP when first installing Windows fresh.
Unlike XP in that regard even after you disable the firewall the UAC is there as a protection against unautorized access of the adminiatrator's account. It's easy to diable however if you are the administrator by simply going into the Control Panel>User Acounts section to switch the new security feature off. For the less Windows savay person installing Vista would be far more annoying seeing that at work.
