Former Slave HDD not recognized anymore

Hi everyone! I added a Maxtor Diamondmax 10, 160GB PATA133 hard drive top my PC a while back, made it slave using the jumper configuration from the Maxtor catalog, installed it, and it worked perfectly.

Then after a while I had to format my PC. I totally disconnected the slave HDD, formatted my PC, and reconnected the Maxtor. The computer didn't recognize it. I have a lot of data on this HDD. I even tried to disconnect the main HDD, make this one master HDD and install OS in order to copy the data, but when I try to do that, windows setup CD recognizes it as "unpartitioned" space!

Any ideas how I can get the data out of this HDD?

Thanks

If you installed the O/S in your old drive - you probably wiped your whole HDD and written over it.

If it was working as a slave drive - it should work. Did you hook up both the power cable - and the slave IDE cable up properly? Over the weekend I was swapping around some IDE drives - and as long as you have the jumpers in the correct position - you can move drives along as Slaves or Masters no problem.

I had one of my drives that had mostly the O/S and applications and My Documents that I repositioned the jumpers in order to make it a slave drive and it worked just fine to retrieve my documents and copy them to anotherdrive.

I'd suggest checking teh Jumper position on both of your drives - and checking cable connections that both teh IDE cable - and MOLEX power cable are both connected to your slave drive.

Do Not install an Operating System in your drive - unless you want to wipe all the data from it.
