Starting a forum is just like making a normal website but a little different. You have to either buy something that will let you build a forum or program one yourself (hard). As with any website you can make money but it is very difficult to make money off it. You have to pay hosting fees which start at 4$ a month but go much much higher for more bandwith and stuff. To make money you put up banner adds which usually pay you a cent or two every click.
alright thanks...I found a web host for 29.95 a month and they say 50gb download band with would that be over kill because they have cheaper packages? there allready is one, i think its something like www.pirate4x4.com or something like that (dont hold me to it).
I would think twice about paying 30$ a month for somthing that you probbably wont even use after a few weeks. When you start the forum, no one will know its there. You will be lucky if you get 1 hit a week from someone that is not you. It is very difficult to get a forum as big as something like this.
You can always use PHPBB thats a free bored, and some hosts will include IPB. and XMB.
Also you can get cheaper hosts...
Ne0-nets is what i use, and around the bandwitch you said is a " 500 MB Space, unlimited POP3 E-mail Accounts 40 Gigabytes of Transfe" plan for 7.95 a month
or a plan for 9.85 a month that is 750 MB Space, unlimited POP3 E-mail Accounts 60 Gigabytes of Transfer
They can do custom plants but they hav 4 basic levels im using the first plan that is a " 250 MB Space, unlimited POP3 E-mail Accounts 20 Gigabytes of Transfer" for 3.75 am month. They suport everything PHP, unlimited MYSQL databases.
and im not advertises, because i even made a post here befoer asking if people used it because it seemed to good to be true, and its not amazingly.
There site hasn;t been updated in forever, but http://www.ne0-net.com/ that is the page, they set me up witha domain in just a couple days. They come with LOADS of scripts, it will even auto install IPB or PHPBB is you tell it to in the CPANAL.
To make money on a website, obvoisly you will need add',s unless you get ALOT of donaters. AT first you WONT make money, you will need to wait untill you get more traffic and more members. Hopyfully you could get a donator or 2 everymonth untill then. I would sugest having more then just a forum, it owuld help it grow a little more, but then again places like this CF are just fine without anything else.
Affiates or any term of advertiseing will be great to start off your page.
Alot a tip, for every forum that you visit, but a link(or a banner, if allowed) to your forum. If its allowed, but forums will let you put it in your signautre, but not makeposts about it, but check the rules, don't want to get you in trouble.

Whilst there are some factors that may prevent your site from being listed at yahoo and/or google, as a general rule, (yes there are exceptions), where you host your website should not make any difference as to whether or not you get listed in those two search engines.High quality inboud links to your site should help you get listed.
