every time i turn on my computer, the found new hardware wizard comes on saying it detected a printer...there isnt a printer connected to my computer anymore and ive deleted all of the files for it (i think). ive tried everything i can think of to try and stop the wizard from running but im out of ideas. i dont want to disable the found new hardware wizard completely, i just want this wizard to stop running...

The fast way to see that corrected would be to tempoaraily reconnect the old printer and install the drivers for it. Once loaded the wizard will see that done and stop appearing. Afterwards you simply unplug the no longer used printer while leaving those drivers intact. When you are ready to use a new printer sometime you then remove the old for Windows to detect the new.

You probably have a fragment of the old drivers left in the registry somewhere... You can do kind of what PC Eye suggested, but you don't even have to reconnect the printer. Just install and uninstall the printer drivers, and hopefully should resolve the issue.

ive already done this.

i installed the drivers off of the printer manufacturers website. then i rebooted computer and the fnh wizard came up again, so i completely removed the printer and the wizard still comes up.

Apparently you may have something else other then any remaining printer driver to still continue to see this. You will have to review any other recent changes for hardwares/softwares made. If you recently had to reinstall other drivers for a tuner card or other device an "orphanned" value in the registry would explain that.

I can point you to a free registry cleaner that shows all programs installed in the main window and includes an automatic cleaner. That would be RegCleaner found at http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm If you late loose the link here be forewarned that someone is trying to seel this now as a retail product under RegSupreme. It was never intended for retail.

One thought is to look in the device manager for "other devices" or any yellow marks next to anything there. If you find one for a printer you can right click on that and choose the disable or uninstall option. Then run the menu bar>tools>registry cleanup>"do them all" option in RegCleaner. If you spot the printer's software name in the main window you can place a check mark next to the main reg key there and click on the "remove selected" button found at the bottom right next to the exit. Hopefully nothing crossed linked itself to another startup on your system.

When the printer drivers are installed and the wizard comes up did you go ahead and click ok and just let it run, if you havent try it and then uninstall the drivers after you run the wizard

The msconfig disables programs listed for starting up along with Windows and most likely will have no effect on drivers and printer apps included since those are usually started up when going to use a printer after reaching the desktop. The main problem is something left in the registry itself trying to load drivers that may even be ones not reinstalled.

Those registry values are often called "orphans" and need to found and removed. The idea of a full install and then total removal may or may not see any of them removed. Sometimes a manual edit of the registry is needed even if a good cleaner fails to remove them.
