Ok this is going to be my first build where the comp is 100% for me. I am a gamer and i am set on AMD because i have never used one before and it seems they are generally seen as better for gaming.

Now to be honest this poped up cause Newegg has a deal on it as a combo with a proccessor that caught my eye

the procceor

Would any of you reccommend a different board for the 939 chipset?

I dont like Abit boards, that CPU is somewhat outdated, and Intel makes the Core 2 Duo which beats the crap out of the Athlon 64. Look up Core 2 Duo. And if you are set on an AMD, get an AM2- socket based board preferably made by Asus, with an AM2 Athlon 64 to match.

Ok i am on a $1k budget and wasnt sure if i could fit a core 2 in there yet. Everquest is the main program i am running. While on there i find that i constantly need internet resources to look something up or run a parser program. I really just need something that can easily tab out between programs with out crashing everquest.

Searching around a lil bit more i found

Then for a motherboard Something like this maybe

Lacks the SLI feature but i was thinking a 7600GT should be all i need for EQ

Check this

Check this thread as there are 2 diff recommended builds for a budget which would allow you to upgrade and get some nicer things. They are both around $730 Upgrades could be:Nicer monitor, more ram etc. I'd go with 2gb of RAM as you're going to be gaming and it's nice to have. :D Do you need a monitor, kb and all that? Little more info would help round out price better! :D

Yes I am sorry i was so vague. I am in need of a total build i am currently using a laptop which i am ditching because its a dell and outdated, I cant even buy memory for it which it definately needs. Thank you for the link, and Boomer i realized later that it was a 939 socket instead of the AM2 which the K9N calls for, Stupid me didnt narrow my search close enough on New egg.

Thank you for the help

Well thanks alot with the info i have recieved i have been swayed to a Dual Core, I think still i am gonna lean toward an AMD, never used one before and ehh wth i would like to give them a shot. One question i have is why the big hardrive? I am seeing alot of people using 200 plus gig hard drives? what are you putting on your comp that requires this much space? you downloading 1billion songs or downloading tv shows from your Tivo? I was thinking an 80 gig my notebook has a 40 gig and i only use 25 gigs...so an 80 gig i think would work for me unless i am missing a benefit of a larger hardrive

Ok I think with the info i now have i am going to do something similar to Cromewell's system.

differences smaller hardrive, 7600 gt

save a few bucks for a decent psu, case, monitor, keyboard/mouse combo, optical drive, Will do some searching around and try to fit this into my 1k budget.
