How come in console games, 60 FPS is considered lightning fast, but in computer gaming, 60 fps is borderline average going on above average.

60FPS even in computer is usually good enough to play with no lag. But computers are capable of going alot of faster in some game. if people can go faster there will be people who want to go faster.

The basic answer to the qeustion is console are around for 3-4 years with no upgrades. Computer technology increases greatly every 6 mounths. Therefore computer going to be able to go at alot faster speeds then consoles.

Yea, but I heard that the human eye can only see a max of 60 frames per second. And when I played with 85 FPS and 65 FPS in a HL mod, I can't notice a difference, or maybe I just got bad eyesight or suck at the game..

Because pieces of crap ... aka TVs (sorry but can you see the bias? ;)) are only capable of pushing out 60Hz. CRTs can punch out well past that. Its a further annoyance that consoles typically limit themselves to 640x480 -- hardly high res by any standard

Yes thats 60fps focused but you can "percieve" higher than that. Furthermore, if you can play a game at say 100fps than that means you can prolly crank the quality and resolution up another notch and play at 70fps :)
