I plan to build a new computer in the near future but until I have the funds I have to deal with this.

Ok I need a new graphics card that will destroy World of warcraft and also put up with more demanding games.

These are my relevent specs.

Intel Core 2 quad CPU 2.40 GHz Q6600

2.00GB DDR2 RAM

32 Bit OS VISTA biz.. ( eeeewwww )

Motherboard: Intel Corporation DQ965GF (LGA 775)

and the most sad of all... Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family.

I have recently brought this beast back to life but the life it lives is not good enough for me. So even though it powers on now it doesn't even handle world of warcraft, let alone more demanding tasks.

I was hoping to add some RAM, keep the motherboard and the processor, and add a graphics card that be compatible with that processor, if you guys think i should change the processor, please make sure that its the same V or W, whatever, because I don't have the time or funds to change the power supply or the motherboard and they are both brand new so if a new processor is recommended it would have to fit right in and get along with the motherboard and power supply.

However my main concern is adding some RAM and changing that ancient graphics card but would like some advice because I'm a little bit slow when it comes to computers and their internals.


I found the V and W of the processor: Max TDP 105 W
VID Voltage Range 0.8500V-1.5V


My price point for just the new graphics card is around 165 USD or less

What is the PSU in it right now? It looks like a decent PC, but it needs to have a PSU that can handle a GPU.

This is a little bit weird but currently I do not have the means of opening up my desktop, taking the screws out and checking it. however when it was recently installed my buddy helped me out and ordered it for me we both installed it.

I plan to get a screw driver tomorrow since i need one for the house anyway ( just returned home yesterday after a long trip and that was when took it over and brought it back to life ) so right now all i have to go by is the fact it runs that processor and the V and W of that processor until I can check it tomorrow, processor W and V is Max TDP 105 W
VID Voltage Range 0.8500V-1.5V

And that it runs the
Motherboard: Intel Corporation DQ965GF (LGA 775) Just fine.

Not much we can do at the moment until we know the PSU. I know that no CPU is needed, that c2q in there now is still a good proc. Get 2 x 2 GB DDR2 ram though, and upgrade to Windows 8 64 bit if possible.

dependant on psu, best gpus are nvidia gtx 770, 780 or titan. or radeon r9 290x. quite costly though.

id say if you want to play high end games you will need something like the above so if you can put a little more money into it. otherwise id say a gtx 660 for that price range.

Is it mandatory to install both simultaneously or can I buy the PSU right now install it, use it with my current setup then install the GPU next week? Pretty much I have no clue if stronger PSUs can overflood and fry weaker systems or if they only deliver the power needed.

No. You can have a 1000watt PSU running an Intel Atom and 64MB GPU if you want, you'll be fine.

Can someone explain to me how this graphics card is different then this graphics card please?

And which one PCunicorn was talking about? They both have the same name. I'm assuming I want the GDDR5 not the DDR5?

Either of them, they are different brands but the same card. However, I would go with the MSI. DDR5 and GDDR5 are the same thing n the site, it's just the site spelling it wrong. They are both GDDR5.
