Frankenstein PC need help

Going to rebuild/updade PC as I have found a few problems with it, I am only going to list The main parts as I already have the following (Case, 750watt power supply, dvd burner, hard drives) need feedback on what I picked so far please

On a tight budget also 500Ish

I have a Raedon 4870x2 video card, Was thinking of getting another and crossfire'ing unless there is a 200$ card that will out perform that.

But I am not sure if crossfire 4870x2 worth investing

I would say it is. A 4870x2 performs very close to a 5870, sometimes outperforming it. 2 together would be outperforming a 5970, which will plow through anything, and at the price point, it is a very good upgrade. However, would need the power supply to drive the quad crossfire. It is worth losing out DX11 for seeing as how there are so few games and the difference isn't really noticable

I already have 1. I think i screwed up when I wrote it down, it is a Radeon HD 4870 x2, not 2 4870's. I had it on a q6600, ddr2 MB and it did great. I am hoping that it is not going to bottleneck this new gear.

I know what you were on about from your other post and from reading your post :)

It shouldn't cause a bottleneck at all, the 4870x2 is still a powerhouse of a card which on its own won't be a bottleneck for your system

Oh, and with the parts that you posted, don't get the 965, go for a 955 instead. It is the exact same chip, but the 955 has x16 multiplier, whilst the 965 has x17 multiplier. It is basically a few keystrokes to change that in the BIOS before starting the system for the first time and you have a 965, but with money saved.

And the speed difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz isn't noticable. The memory I have is the 1600MHz, which I only got because Scan cocked up their pricing so mine were cheaper than the 1333 by about £2, however my mobo automatically puts it to 1333MHz, which all AM3 motherboards do as 1333MHz is the highest official speed AM3 chips can use, and it took me a few weeks to notice this. So, I went into the BIOS, set it to 1600MHz, and no difference at all. That is the same story for my system and for every other one I have built or used

Or look at the combo deals when you come to buy and see if you can't get better for your budget :)
