Freaking 4850

This is getting pretty annoying now... Is there a freakin compatability issue with the 4850 and Vista? There have been several times (pictures below) when I doing something on the computer (most times playing a game) and the system crashes. when I reboot it tells me it's a VGA issue... I am frustrated because I have looked for updates for this VGA driver but there seems to be non, yet it crashes at times??? What can I do about this???

My second issue with this card is that the clock timings wont change when I overclock them. Here are the supposed factory clock speeds:Core clock 625MHz, Memory Clock 1986MHz

This is the default my card came with: 500 mhz GPU clock, and 993 memory clock

WHAT IS GOING ON??? I am going crazy trying to figure this out. When I try to overclock it with the catalyst tool it refers back to the original clock speeds and I have no idea why.

And finaly when I try to overclock with ATI tray tools if crashes OMFG???

Is this a hardware problem? or am I doing something wrong... contributions are very appreciated!

It could be that PSU. King win is definitely not quality. Have you tried re installing the drivers?

Also, the 500mhz you see is normal. Thats the 2D clocks, it clocks up to 625 when you load a 3D game.

I had problems where every time I restarted the graphics drive messed up.
I downloaded vista sp1 and my problems are gone.
try that if you don't have it.

I am fully updated on Vista (SP1), and all my drivers.

"It could be that PSU. King win is definitely not quality" -> I don't know that this power supply is that cause bc when it crashes, windows problem reports and solutions sites the problem to the ATI drivers...

This was another fix I used.
Go into Device manager right click on your card and click uninstall click the uninstall driver as well. run drivercleaner to get ride of any traces of the current driver then restart windows should find and install a driver.
Try updating the display driver only not control center.

Ok I will try this suggestion out and get back to you guys...thanks soo much for the speedy replies btw :D

I had to turn off my Mobo OC, the pci bus bandwidth OC option of fast or turbo and take off the +.1v in order to stop my 4850 from crashing, otherwise no problems after. We have a similar mobo, make sure these are set to auto. Updated bios around the same time, so that may be a good idea as well.

I re-installed the drivers for the Asus 4850 today, Ill watch it over the weekend to see if any more problems exist. BTW when you build a pc how long does it take to find all the errors that allow your computer to crash...and is it almost certain that a hand-build computer will crash atleast once a week?

Lol a few hours after reinstalling the drivers I it started acting up again. I was playing wow and the screen would freeze for a few seconds, turn black and then return... when I went to the system tray to see what was up there a was hazard sysmbol on there wbut it dissapeared soon enough. This happened like 10 or so times (within 5 minutes of each other), so I finaly restarted the computer, turned off the voltage control on the RAM, and turned off the OC on the card...and it has not happened again (its has onlyt been about an hour since then though)
