Free or Paid Internet Security

My subscription to Norton Internet Security is coming up for renewal. I have read that free antivirus/firewall is just as good. Is this true? I always thought that paid was better. Is this so or am I just wasting my money?
 
Most use free antivirus software. Nothing will be full proof but if you watch what you do and don't do anything bad then thats all you need. I use Avast free antivirus and have had no issues. As long as you are behind a router, it has a hardware firewall and then you have windows built in firewall.
 
It's more common sense than anything else. I use Microsoft Security Essentials but AVG and Avast are known to be good as well.
 
avast is one of the top rated free avs.i use it along with the windows firewall and malwarebytes pro.24.95 for a lifetime licence is more than worth it.as has been already said,common sense helps.
