Free Spyware software - Has the "best" changed?

I remember for a while it was SpyBot, then AdAware. Is it still those or have we all moved on to something better?
 
The norm now is Malwarebytes Antimalware and Superantispyware. I think Adaware and Spybot was great in their day but not any longer.
 
I used the old spybot - was good. When I went to upgrade to more recent version about 8 months ago - it was too much for old my P4 to handle without bogging down my PC.

I'm looking for another free program to use right now - preferably something that doesn't run all the time in the background - or that takes up very little of the system when it's running.

I've got a spysweeper subscription that I'm really happy with - but I'm in kindof a transient point with 3 PCs ( 2 that are users and a future build ) that I don't want to invest in a new subscription for a couple of months.

Yeah, AdAware used to be my favorite antispyware, and i still run it alongside Malwarebytes, but i dont think its nearly as effective as it used to be. Malwarebytes is probably the best out there right now.

Depending on the processor you have, I would say that you may be low on system memory is the actual culprit. If you have more than a 1ghz processor, it should be fine. I would be more worried if you didn't have at least 1gb of ram and check your startup programs for ones you don't need running at bootup. Use the "msconfig" utility to stop programs from running on bootup and let us know what processor you are using and how much system memory you have installed.

System's not that old :D

I D/L the app - and it works fine. No malaware found :good:
