a try install Ubuntu on a desktop that was Xp and format hard drive the
desktop had Xp on it and it fall off my desk and the hard drive head reader
broke i try puting a just format hard drive in and boot off the CD but it said fauire whatn't boot form there a forum said to boot hard drive first than CD but didn't work i what find some the freeware Operating Systems so next
time my computer go crazy i boot freeware Operating Systems
 
It should boot from cd, mine always has. What is your system specs? Are you sure your booting from cd correctly?

Try and use Puppy linux, it can also boot from cd. Or mint 9.
 
one Dell Optplex GE1 the one i was use before i broke the harddrive
compaq desktop i was use before the dell both Had Windows Xp home and
work good Compaq crazy becase a virus and i don't have the $ to buy install disc
