Freezes on Startup - Fresh XP Install

Hi to all. Hope to have many posts on here in the future. So I recently bought a new computer, as my old HP d530 has been around for a few years. I started noticing it would freeze on the HP screen when restarting. I would then hit control/alt/delete to restart again, (and I would have to do this at least 5 times before it would actually restart). I wanted to reformat the hard drive so it would be good to sell. I have successfully done this before, when I originally got the computer.
So after a few hours I finished the reformat, installed the 3 missing drivers (network adapter, video, sound), and was good to go, so I thought. IT STILL FREEZES WHEN REBOOTING. This is really frustrating, as I thought a fresh install of XP would've done the trick. Once it finally does restart, after several attempts, everything works great! Any ideas why I am having this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The causes why computer blocks on the restart can be many. Here are some of them:

-incompatible hardware with the OS
-damaged or very old disfuncional hardware
-OS cannot shut down the specific drivers while shutting down the OS because they are not properly installed or they are damaged or even incompatible with the hardware
-the file "Shutdown.exe" might be damaged
-also some DLL files such as "user32.dll","advapi32.dll" and "kernel32.dll" might be damaged or missing or completely changed by the virus
-if the same thing happens on the STAND BY or HIBERNATE then also the DLL file called "powrprof.dll" might be damaged or missing or completely changed by the virus

-and so on..........

The reason can ALSO be the boot virus. They are VERY rarely today, but that might also cause the same problem which you are having.I had the same problem 2 years ago.
As you said....you reformatted the HDD,but what you did not do was that you didn't format the boot sector too.The boot sector is the FIRST thing that is read from the HDD in order to see what OS to load. However if you format even the entire HDD with the OS CD or DVD disk, the HDD is completely formatted, but the informations from the boot sector are NOT deleted. They are only replaced by the new one,but the old one remains and THAT can cause the computer to work like crap, including the FREEZING ON THE RESTART:cool:
What I recommend you to do is to completely format your entire HDD with the special DOS program BEFORE YOU INSTALL ANY OPERATING SYSTEMS ON IT!The name of that DOS program/tool is "Kill Disk 4.1".That's the special DOS tool which formats the ENTIRE HDD,including all the informations from the boot sector. You can simply run it from the simple Windows 98 DOS which you load from the USB stick.
If you don't know how to do this, contact me on my hotmail adress "[email protected]" and I will connect to your computer using the Team Viewer 4 and do the job for you and explain you how to use it ;)

Cheers mate!
