Freezing at startup

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a computer for a firend.

Its a 1.8 sempron with 512mb memory.

Basically when i start the computer and logon 5 seconds later the computer locks up.

I have tried safe mode and this doesnt happen.

From this i am led to believe that its ever a trojan/virus loading up or a conflict with 1 or 2 programs.

I have run msconfig in safe mode turned off all start up programs, found three viruses 111 lots of spyware ran cc cleaner, mru blaster, stinger, and a few more.

I tried to boot up in normal mode but still the sam prob 5 seconds after logging on bam its froze again, but i can move the mouse.

I tried to run hijack this in safe mode but wouldnt let me.

All i have to do is run spybot when i copy over some new definitions a newer version of stinger and then my last option would be to do a repair with the windows cd incase of any missing files.

If that doesnt work im going to have to wipe it guys unless you can help?

"IF IN DOUBT THROW IT OUT!" is an old rederic that may not be necessary. With the lock at bootup a simple tip is first trying the "FIXBOOT" and "FIXMBR" commands at the Commend Prompt Only option seen in the F8 start menu just before Windows starts loading. The second step if that fails would be to perform an "install to repair" http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm to get Windows running while preserving the current installation. From that point you could try other removers like Adware SE Personal http://www.lavasoft.com , Grisoft's AVG 7.1 Free edition http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 , the latest beta 2 Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx , and others before posting a HiJack This log.
