Frequent Crashes ANNOYING

i have been on for a while but my problem with my computer is realli annoyinghttp://www.computerforum.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
:mad: now. wen it does freeze, the screen lock up(nuttin moves), mouse stuck, keyboard useless and most of the time, there's statics noises. i've gone through ever software possible to find the problem but no help. it does happen during any specific point or wen i use a certain program, i randomly freeze by itself. any help is much appreciated thankz in advance.http://www.computerforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Sounds like a hardware problem.

Did you happend to punch your tower on some point? ^^
 
i've run the test but nuttin is wrong
any other idea..........
i first thought it might be the on-board sound card
then i thought it was the video card
finally i thought it might be the hard drive but i've boght another drive but the same thing happen
please help . anyone
this computer is all i can depend on
dont have money do build another one
 
Now you can at least rule out memory as a cause. Hopefully you let memtest run for several hours to be the most effective. The next main concern would be system temps especially the cpu. P4s run hot as it is. If your bios has a hardware monitor that can often display a close figure to the actual temps of the cpu and main board as well.

Some will try pointing a small desk fan into the case with a side panel off to see if there is any difference seen after a period of time. SpeedFan and other utilities can often point out temp issues. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/mbm.html

i know its not system's temps b/c i have about ten fans running simultaneously and i have put the fans in the rite place so i can get the best air flow. nothing in the computer is hot so wat's next? could it be the BIOS. i've recently suspected it the be to cause.
 
SpeedFan and a few others monitor voltages as well as temps. The bios can't be totally ruled out. But if that was going you wouldn't be seeing locks at the desktop but rather failures to get there. If the NV Ram was somehow losing programming info an update would reflash the bios which could help unles the chipset itself was failing. When was the last time you blew out the dust and dirt buildup in the case itself? An intermittent conductivity in memory and other slots could also be a concern from build up there.
 
Make sure you go to the manual if not direct to the board manufacturer's support site for the correct update along with the flash utility they provide. You should make a backup of the current bios before going any further though. If you have a bad flash you would still get it running with the backup.
Another thing you can try is downloading the version just prior to the latest in case the newest is a beta and not full version to update with or you get a bad download for some reason. Follow the directions cafefully to see a good flash.
 
You may want to have a good look at your Power Supply as well. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a PSU. If you can get another power supply to try.
 
Or, it could be a spyware/virus/trojan/etc. ? Try a scan with your antivirus or your antispyware scanner and see what you get.
 
I am starting to wonder if you are seeing this from a need to boost memory up from 512mb to 1gb. Another thing that comes to mind is the number of startups loading along with Windows. If you recently installed one or more programs the memory usage in the background could have gone up. You could give the msconfig utility a try to disable any non essential startups to see if that helps any. Just type in "msconfig" like it's spelled at the Run prompt off of the Start menu and press the enter key to bring up that screen. When it appears go to the last tab on the right for the startup group and try reducing items not regarding video and sound.
 
i was unable to dl the flash bios util' at intel.com, i'll try again soon
the power supply could be but i 75% sure its not b/c wouldn't that make everything shutdown? i can still see the screen wen it freezesand the HHD lite is on and fans still works, but i'll try that went i get sum more $$
i know its not "spyware/virus/trojan/etc" b/c even after a reformat, it happens!
memory could be the case but again, no $dough$(do u think "elixir" brand is good?
i have onli 6 progam to load at start-up so that's not a problem
**and please keep in mind that the problem can occur anytime, no specific time

i thought ya'll might have a cost-free fix so.....

thankz for the site but i got it already
i've run the flash bios, it doesn't help since i already got it updated long ago

but it does fix the problem
i left my comp running the mem test today wen i away...... started at 7:30
wen i got home, guess what happen?>...........it frozed.
wen i check the clock it frozed at 8:33
the program onli ran for 1:03
the programs still said no error
the websites u gave me make me wonder maybe it the power management
i'll give that a try
it also mention about video card......
i alwaiz suspected it migth be that
i'll have to give that a try too
i'll report back on wat the result from those experiment ASAP

Sometimes an resource conflict between IRQs can see this as well. Try the tips at the link there first to see if you get any results.

i noe u think its software but it's not, according to the other guy's spec, i narrow it down to motherboard setting or the motherboard itself

I don't think it's strictly software related at all. But that having some effect shouldn't be overlooked not knowing just what is installed on your machine. One thought was to clear the cmos to bring back the default settings or even a bios update if available.
