Fresh build - initial bootup! Minor issues/questions

Hi All,

I have assembled the components:
P6T Deluxe V2
Intel i7 920
Corsair 6GB
HIS ATI HD5770 Graphics
Samsung 500GB SATA HD
Sony Optiarc DVD

Now I am installing Windows 7 64-bit and a couple questions ...

1) As system starts, it runs through initial screen at BIOS it shows Marvell 88SE61xx Adapter at top and then says:

Adapter 1
Disks Information:
No hard disk is detected!

2) On the install, I get to the end of installing Windows (after copying windows files, expanding windows files, installing features, installing updates, and then completing installation) I get the following ...

"Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware"

These seem to be separate issues since the first doesn't hold back the second from installing. In BIOS, 1st SATA is HD and 2nd is DVD ... boot sequence is the same, HD then DVD.

Any suggestions, feedback?

You must change the boot order to dvd rom first. However, check your bios settings for what mode the SATA controller is in. If its in raid/ahci mode, you may need drivers installed before the OS sees the hard drive. If its in ide mode, you may not be getting power to the hard drive. Make sure it is spinning up on bootup.

Just to confirm - the drive is spinning up, as I mentioned it seems to nearly complete the install of Win7 until just at the end of 'Completing installation" when I get - "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware."

I ran separate power to the drive to make sure it has direct power, the boot order is dvd then hd, it is in the enhanced SATA configuration (vs compatible for earlier Windows versions or Disabled) and SATA is configured as IDE (vs RAID or AHCI).

The BIOS and o/s seem to see the drive ok since it shows in list of SATA devices and Win7 seems to nearly complete install on the drive.

However, with this ... my issues 1 & 2 still continue.

Thoughts?

When you get into the windows 7 setup, try formatting the hard drive. Erase any partitions unless it has to make the partition and try installing it again. I've gone through this when I had to put a new hard drive in my laptop.

Try removing all but the first stick of RAM, then install Windows, and if that works, add your RAM one stick at a time.

Awesome! That did it - took out 2 of the 3 sticks, completed install - replaced them 1 at a time on restarts and I am good! Running great!

Now on to run some performance and temperature tests!!

Thanks for your assistance on this - much, much appreciated.

Ok, one more to troubleshoot...

System is running great - added 2 new SATA drives (2 x Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB), plugged into MB and then connected power.

When I restart, I don't have these listed in 'My Computer' but they are listed in device manager. I disabled - then enabled in Device Manager, still no show in my computer. If I go to system info, the main drive is listed under Storage, Drives and the 2 added drives are listed under Storage, Disks.

They are also listed in BIOS. Any changes to be made in BIOS? I am not setting up with RAID.

Anything else I need to do? Not sure why it's not showing up - embarrassed that it's going to be something obvious!

Setting up RAID should be done while installign windows....

Just to clarify - NOT setting up RAID. Keeping as is, just adding 2 individual drives.

Setting in BIOS are the same as before (ASUS MB) - SATA configuration [Enhanced] - Configured SATA as [IDE]

Currently, I have drive Local Disk C: and DVDRW D:

As I said, just added 2 drives - connected sata/power cables. While they show up in Device Manager, in my Computer.

Thanks-

Ah, I got it ... have to go to Disk Management to add drives and format.

I knew I was missing one step - found it! (Win 7 by the way)

It lists Disk 0 and Disk 2 (why not 0 and 1 or 1 and 2) ... I use the MBR partition style right? These will be one large partition each (no added partitions) - one for video files, one for photo files.

Is this ideal to ultimately have Local Disk C:, DVD D:, and these are likely going to end up as E: and F: right?

Thanks again - greatly appreciated!!
