Fresh install to windows XP PRO

I recently bought a laptop that had vista on it, but i just hate it. So i've decided to attempt my first install of windows xp pro on it. So I'm just wondering what i have to do, or what are some tips as to how to approach this.

Should i just wipe the C;/ clean and install xp or what should i do?

goto manufacture and download all drivers associated with the manufacture and laptop. do this 1st.

you can then try installation, but i would wipe clean.
low level format and be done with it.

drivers and support for the laptop high priority. get this 1st.

as far as drivers go, i install them after i install windows correct?

yup. just make sure you get the right driver for your OS.
